After stumbling across this howtoforge article, I decided it was time to get my ubuntu server running with a ~useful~ function. This is more of a fun experiment than a useful addition to the network. Never-the-less, I’ll be setting this up over the coming days and seeing what can be made of it.
I’ll report back with results/etc once they are available.

I only just noticed today that I had comments set to ‘moderate’. So I went in, thinking I was popular, and then found out that every one of them was spam. So they’ve all been marked as spam and I shall carry on my day.

I’ve been working on a new level, using the Ued engine version 3, called DM-Hallways3. It’s a development on a serious of maps by a friend of mine which we are now collaborating on. With my first attempt at tying in with the series being DM-Ventilation, this is now my second for the ‘Facility’ series.
It’s based on the concept that these are underground tunnels running through a facility of some kind. So far I’ve got a few tunnels, lifts and a basic lighting and texturing scheme. A few issues remain that I can see, and I’ll have to probably set it up to be Alpha/Beta tested to find more bugs.
Heres a screenshot from inside the game editor, viewing the whole level from various angles and without the lighting being shown.

I’ve spent quite a lot of time pondering what I could do had I a static ip, or port forwarding. Well it turns out that I could run a linux based web server using my favorite distro.
I’m currently running Ubuntu 8.03 with apache, mysql, php and a few other random experiments. It apparently works fairly well for external users too, with the makings of a forum in the works it could be quite the fun experiment.

I was minding my own business at work; updating computers, clearing browsing history and deleting rogue files. All was well.
Then one faithful computer decided it hated me.
When I started the windows update program on this particular machine, I was given the following screen:

Shortly proceeding this, I discovered that an error with Internet Explorers configuration makes it believe that we are sporting macs all over the place. But resetting all the settings fixes this problem right up.

Currently listening to: I wanna grow old with you.
First off, I’ve not posted in a hell of a time. This is because of the server move mucking up my ‘Creative Genius’. So I apologize about that and hope you didn’t pine after new content too much… As if!
Right, on to the main order of business.
So, I got my hair dyed a pretty dark black on Tuesday. Gotta say that I love it quite a damn lot and plan to re-dye it quite often. Now all that’s left to do is straighten it on Sunday night so I can come to college and be all ’super cool’.
Up next was my trip to Motherwell for my gf’s college audition. Motherwell went as planned; got there, got to college, she auditioned, we went back to train station. Then we headed for Glasgow for some shopping. This went fairly well, I bought a wallet and some fish net style gloves (How emo of me). After which came the awesomeness, I walked past the apple shop and just stared at it :)…I’m thinking I’ll have to get my ipod in there when I finally decide to buy one.
So in summary, nothing exciting has happened really and I just wanted to blog
p.s. Ain’t it annoying when you run out of poop paper?

I had an idea pop into my head this morning, so I decided to do a quick ’sketch’ of my idea, as follows.

But now I suppose you’ll be wanting an explanation of this here diagram. Well it’s fairly simple so why not.
It’s basically a quick diagram describing how I want to modify my current home network. Currently we’ve got three computers and a wireless access point on a Hub/Router thing, the PS3 is on the wireless and there is no printer. Changes I want to make will be done through process of numbered list.
- Get a server computer, which is basically an old computer I’ll keep permanently online.
- Get the server in the loft, somewhere it won’t disturb my sleep from.
- Buy a router, this will be up in the loft next to server.
- Hook router (actual router) up to the NetGear wireless router (A nice ‘gift’ from our ISP), this gives the router access to the internet and also provides a few more ethernet ports.
- Plug up one of the printers that’s lying around to the network.
- Plug up computers to network
- Leave PS3 as is, it’s cool like that.
- Hook up Wireless Access Point in the loft or living room, currently undecided.
- ???
- Profit

“Theme, coke and Paramore”
The first one is the content of this post, the second and third describe my current activities.
With that out the way, time to get on with it. Worked on this current theme last night, customizing it a bit, changing code and images and getting it just right (which didn’t actually happen). Still a bit of work to be done on it but I’ll get there in the end.
