As annoyed as I was when Valve delayed the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, I can’t help but admire them when they go and do something crazy. Like giving Team Fortress 2 players who pre-ordered L4D 2, a custom hat, Bill’s hat to be precise. Yet another hat that players can flaunt around in-game like cheap cat-walk whores.

Here I am, flaunting my spiffing new hat. I have to admit, it makes the medic look quite dapper.
The only downside to the release of Bill’s hat, is the shocking fact that many players are now coughing up the dough to pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 in order to receive the hat but care not about the zombie game. Now ain’t that awesome for Valve?
On the subject of items being placed in TF2 that are purely cosmetic, I’m not a huge fan of the community disruption that seems to be taking place. I have to admit that while TF2 is getting better in my opinion, many players are finding it getting worse.
It all depends on your luck of finding these hats and unfortunately, some people idled and missed out on the chance of finding the HALO hat. Some people were unfortunate enough to find themselves receiving no hats in-game, many missed the chances of receiving the Halloween hats for one reason or another and some will not even receive Bill’s hat due to lack of cash or a lack of L4D 2 interest.
So what should Valve do? Personally, I think the hats should be available to everyone. Every player should get to choose whatever hat they want and the entire community can stop bickering and get back to playing this grand MMO FPS game.
Yesterday was the official launch day for Sky Player on the Xbox 360 console. A strange thing happened yesterday morning actually, when Microsoft attempted to place an advertisement on the dashboards, what was supposed to be a video detailing the Sky Player was actually the Sky Player client. It was only online for a mere ten minutes, I was able to grab it and have a quick glimpse through the features available. It was actually able to broadcast the channel I was last watching, so I was able to stream the Sky News channel, but nothing else. A few minutes later, the entire thing exploded and I was unable to access it from that point on.
Now I hear the Sky Player did launch yesterday but was released prematurely, because they’ve ripped it off the consoles and are attempting a second launch today.
Then I hear you scream, why would I care about Sky Player on the Xbox when I obviously have a Sky subscription and all the appropriate hardware to watch Sky television anyway? Well that’s easy, the Xbox will cut out the middle-man, that horrible satellite dish. You see, I might as well be using an empty Pringles can and some Scotch Tape for all the good that dish does. A lot of my channels are horribly distorted or don’t show up at all, I’m also planning on opening some more homeplug adaptors to create some sort of cheapskate Sky multi-room with all the Xbox consoles in my house.
So I can’t set up my Sky Player, but I can at least play the Left 4 Dead 2 demo that Valve promised to the kind folks who pre-ordered the game. Right? Right?!
No.
The Left 4 Dead 2 demo has also been pushed back, it was supposed to release last night at eleven o’clock but now I have to wait until the end of today. Thanks Valve!
