Google Gets a New Favicon

Posted by: Shaun In: Design| General

Remember Google’s recognizable favicon? It was a capital ‘G’ in blue within a white box with Google’s colours used as border colours.

Well, today I noticed that google have changed their favicon.ico to a lower-case ‘g’ and appears to have some sort of shadow.

It’s good to see Google developing but does this favicon really shout ‘Google’? I’m not so sure it was a great decision to change their favicon.

What do you think?

It will take some time to get used to it!
Why is it lower-case? Strange!

If you want images of them, I made a blog post with a comparison, and a small “review” of it:

Excellent post Peter, you explain things a lot more detailed than I did. I guess I was in shock when I noticed it.

I’m not sure that Google would do a full rebrand, it’s got a good formula and should really stick to it.

As for the lowercase thing, I think it’s supposed to represent the second ‘g’ in Google… though Google haven’t mentioned anything about it.
